I saved all through high school to go on a climbing trip with my best friend @joekinder across the mountain west after graduation. • • At the last minute I bought a Nikon N90s, a single lens and some expired slide film so we could put on a slide show if/when we returned to New Hampshire. I taught myself how to use it on the long drive across the country. • • For the summer we camped, climbed, and ate $.80 buttered bagels from Einstein’s to make our money last. Seriously I ate these like everyday. • • From Vegas, to the desert, to American Fork Canyon in Utah we climbed everyday from sunrise to sunset. We were pretty lucky to meet up with some of the best climbers in world along the way and that helped me push my photography each day. Folks like @dave_graham_, Dave Hume, Chris Lindner, Joe Brooks, and @stephnforte were all establishing some of the hardest routes in the country at the time. • • Eventually, as high school kids do, Joe and I ran out of money, got tired of each other’s stench and decided it was time to drive home. I’m not sure if we even spoke a single word to each other on the 36 hour drive home (it was a long summer) but all I could think about was getting my film developed and sharing these awesome stories with friends and family back home. • • For me, that was the beginning.
