テート・ギャラリーさんのインスタグラム写真 - (テート・ギャラリーInstagram)「#GetToKnow Simryn Gill is an artist who works in sculpture, photography, drawing and writing. She was born in Singapore and has lived in Malaysia, India, the UK and Australia. Her work embodies this sense of ‘in-between-ness’, drawing on images and materials from her surroundings and focusing on transition and change. 🌊 These photographs are from a 2014 series called ‘Channel’ which explore the coastal environment of Port Dickson, Gill’s hometown in Malaysia. She has been recording the industrial port town since 1993 using a range of different media - including installations of cubes made from soil from the area and photo series like this one. 🍃 The 29 photos were taken in a small mangrove forest by the water and show colourful plastic bags and other items of household waste entangled in the roots and branches of the trees. By focusing on this normally overlooked litter, the series draws attention to the shipping of products to and from Port Dickson and raises wider questions about migration and globalisation. It prompts us to think about the difficult relationship between humankind and the environment.
