Cat companions often pop up in art — from sitting patiently in laps or doing the housekeeping in Beatrix Potter's 'The Tailor of Gloucester', to Mark Chagall's etching which illustrates La Fontaine's story of a man who so adored his cat, he turned her into a woman and married her.
