North America’s bird populations have been disappearing over the last half century. It seems hard to notice as there always appear to be birds in every tree, pond, and up in the sky, but scientists estimate we’ve lost over 3 billion birds over the last 5 decades. As human activity has grown and altered the landscape, many birds have had a hard time adapting. While certain species such as waterfowl and birds of prey are doing okay, many other grassland, migratory, and woodland species have been on the decline.
