Years ago, during my first full season in Monterey Bay, I had fantastic encounters with breaching orcas. That seemed to fade out quite a bit over the coming years as I was either not out on the water when they got active or aimed the wrong way when they breached. This is another frame from a wonderful day with a northern pod of transients who must have breached well over 30 times, while also exhibiting other behaviors such as spyhopping, tail-lobbing, and more. Haven’t seen any orcas for well over 2 weeks, which means one thing....we’re due!
