It's still a bit chilly in Washington, D.C., but today is the first day of "peak bloom" for the city's Yoshino cherry trees. Our friends at the @nationalparkservice define peak bloom as when 70% of the Yoshino trees reach full blossom.
Folks have been visiting D.C.'s Tidal Basin to enjoy the cherry trees for a long time. You can spot the trees in the foreground of this photo from our archives. Behind the blossoms, two women can be seen sitting on the edge of the basin, taking in the view of the Washington Monument at night. [?: Scurlock Studio Records, Archives Center]
