Next up to bat, "Sock'em Jochum"! ⚾
This uniform belonged to Betsy Jochum, an outfielder and pitcher for the South Bend Blue Sox. The Blue Socks were part of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. During World War II, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League kept fans coming to stadiums across the United States as male players went into military service. After the war, men resumed their places on the field, but the women kept the league alive until 1954.
Betsy Jochum was one of the league’s best hitters and runners, clinching a 1944 batting championship with an average of .296.
