Hi! This is @freersackler, the Smithsonian’s museums of Asian art, taking over the institution’s Instagram this week. You’re looking at “Terminal” by Subodh Gupta, a contemporary artist based in India.

The installation, now on view in our pavilion, is meant to evoke a cityscape and the spires of religious structures. Churches, mosques, temples and other religious buildings often use spires as an architectural feature, dotting the skyline of many urban landscapes.

Visitors can walk through the work and beneath its canopy of thread, representing the innate interconnectedness of the structures.
