A deep breath of air is required and watching these pearl farmers work underwater without dive tanks is humbling to say the least. In the way Kamoka works, culturing pearls can have a positive impact on lagoon ecology by restoring depleted fish populations and serving as a protected area to all ocean inhabitants. Recent research provided by a grant from @ナショナルジオグラフィック and the @waittinstitute showed increased fish populations within the immediate vicinity of this farm. Pearls cultured in a sustainable way are truly ecological gems, which are two words that rarely go together.
