Since the moon usually carves an elliptical path around the earth, we are occasionally gifted with a few nights every year where it appears larger than normal. Even though it’s actually the same size, it’s just a little closer and feels pretty dramatic… also known as a super moon. In late 2016 I had heard that another one was coming in conjunction with a clear night, so I called my friend @garrison_rowland and we decided to set up a high line on the Hall of Horrors formation in Joshua Tree to best show the scale of the moon with prominent features. The night turned out to be a success and this shot continues to be on of my favorites from that year.
