There are two types of people when it snows.
1️⃣ A scene from @silibraries' “Hans Lustig: Ein heiteres Bilderbuch” (which means "a cheerful picture book") by Karl Mühlmeister. The rhyming book was published in 1900, and this illustration accompanies lines for "Der Schneemann" or "The Snowman."
2️⃣ "Bird in Snow," a Meiji era woodblock print by Kawanabe Kyōsai in our @freersackler's collection. It's from after 1881, when Kyosai's award-winning painting of a crow on a branch was exhibited at the Second National Industrial Exhibition in Tokyo. That bird's success created a demand for similar images—in this piece, he uses white paper without any ink to create the central elements.
