During a photo workshop last summer, we found a pair of humpback whales lunge feeding along the beach. The seas were a little choppy, which actually made for some interesting shots, even though it made for photographing and keeping steady a little more challenging. As the whales erupted from the sea, water and anchovies would go flying in all directions in a dramatic scene that only lasted a mere 2-3 seconds. Not to mention, I had my favorite combination of light, as the shore was shrouded in dark clouds and the sun was just peeking through the marine layer, lighting the whales perfectly. The day we can head out and be among these animals again can’t come soon enough.
