There is a word in Persian for the visually impaired: “ruşendil,” which means “those with an illuminated heart.” On my recent project on the Mont Blanc massif climbing with Turkey’s first visually-impaired mountain climber, Necdet Turhan (who climbed five summits across five continents), I gained a deep respect for the greater heart it truly takes to climb mountains, unseen.
