Photo by @Thomas Peschak | I have spent months living and photographing on the remote Indian Ocean atoll of Aldabra, always in close proximity to the 100,000 or so endemic giant tortoises that survive on this remote Seychelles outpost. Giant tortoises used to occur on most islands but were eaten to extinction everywhere in the region except on Aldabra. Here they have truly mastered the harsh terrain, and in the dry season they become beachcombers, seeking out nutritious seedpods deposited by the tide.
