Photo by @beverlyjoubert | At Duba Plains in the Okavango, a five-month-old lion cub claims the top of a termite mound as her own. It's the perfect position to fend off her siblings' playful attacks. She has three siblings her own age and another two eight-month-old cousins, and when they're not sleeping, lion cubs spend most of their time stalking and pouncing on each other. It is important play for a young predator who needs to hone those skills for use in survival later on in life. But she has a lot of growing to still do, as the size of her paws attest, and constant ambushes can be exhausting. The top of a termite mound can give her a small respite while she is still able to swat at any attacks from below.
