Photo by @CarltonWard | One of the highlights of my year (and career) was coming face-to-face with this female Florida panther at Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp. I've been working full-time in the Everglades for nearly three years using camera traps to photograph rare and elusive panthers for my #PathofthePanther storytelling project with National Geographic. This summer was the first time I ever photographed a panther in the wild while holding a camera in my hands. I'll never forget the feeling of looking into her eyes as she stared back at me. Now I am more motivated than ever to share her story. The story of the panther has the power to inspire the protection of millions of acres of wild Florida, save working lands, and keep the Everglades from being cut from the rest of America by sprawling development that is currently consuming more than 100,000 acres of wildlife habitat every year.
