But in this moment, he looked small, submissive and defeated as his constant attempts at mating were rejected by this beautiful female. I sat with them for 24 hours bearing witness to this intimate exchange even though his desires were never realized. We will never truly understand what it means to be a polar bear but I am in Svalbard for the next two weeks for @sea_legacy getting a glimpse into their complex and fragile existence.
