It’s a spectacular sight to watch the local Ilulissat fishermen skillfully weave their boats through the maze of icebergs in Disko Bay, #Greenland. It gives scale to the icy giants as they dance in the currents. The iceberg-choked Ilulissat Icefjord sends a conveyor belt of ice calved from the Jakobshavn #Glacier out to the Atlantic Ocean. Larger icebergs frequently become grounded on a shallow undersea moraine at the mouth of the fjord. Occasionally the bergs break free and begin a long fateful journey through Disko Bay and out to the Davis Strait, where eventually they meet their end in the relatively warmer ocean water.
