Photo by @stephenwilkes: St. Marc’s Campanile, a staple of the beautiful city of Venice, was erected in the early 1500’s. One of the most fascinating parts of this tower is it’s five ringing bells. Each bell of the Campanile rang with a different purpose.
The Renghiera announced executions, the Mezza Terza announced sessions of the Senate, the Nona signified midday, the Trottiera called members of the Maggior Consiglio(a 2,000 member branch of the government) to council meetings, and the Marangona, the largest and loudest bell, rang at the beginning and end of each work day.
