Outer Banks, NC ...Early morning winter fog at the Nags Head fishing pier. The Atlantic is especially treacherous here on these barrier islands. The shallow sandy shoals have put many a ship aground and sunk. However on any day the seas can be soft and quiet as here. Yet weather changes are rapid and often dramatic. Heavy seas and high winds can build quickly. There is rarely a dull weather day in the outer banks.
