Photo@michaelmelford -On 12/12/14 Congress acted to protect some of our most precious wild places for future generations. I like to think that the power of communication and National Geographic helped to protect three proposed wilderness areas I photographed while on assignment celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act. All told, more than 1 million acres of public land are set to gain new protection, including 245,000 acres of wilderness.
