126 years ago today: The public visits the #WashingtonMonument for the first time.

This is a piece of the monument's original cornerstone, laid in 1848. When construction re-started in 1876, Dr. Joseph Toner watch as workers shored up the original cornerstone. He saved this piece, which broke off.
