This last photo I did for my upcoming story "The Beetle Plague," is to illustrate the effects of the spruce bark beetle on the Engelmann Spruce forest near Wolf Creek Pass in southern Colorado. The mountain pine beetle has devastated millions of acres of pine forests in the American West spurred on by climate warming, and now the spruce beetle is wrecking havoc in the high elevation spruce forest in this region of the Rockies. There was also a large fire in June 2013 in the spruce beetlekill here.
