I found Suleika and Jon separately— Jon, through his rendition of “What a Wonderful World,” which popped up on my Spotify one rainy evening in Tokyo, 2018, shortly after losing my husband. Suleika l first heard on @theclass podcast. It was love at first listen. I felt… something like a kinship; a chord resonated inside my chest. Both of them… their artistry is just godly—but even more so, for me, it was something about their presence and their hearts that captured mine. And now I feel like know why. Because this documentary by @mheineman so intimately portrayed their innocence, purity, and humanity. The realness of holding extremes… something I know a thing or two about too. Thank you for surviving. Thank you for being you. It means the world to me that you not only survive but that you keep creating in the way that you do. It makes me know, somehow, that my survival and my expressions matter too. And so, in case someone out there’s in the movement of their lives that’s a highest of highs or lowest of lows, or maybe even both—I want you to know that your survival matters to us.
