An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck the country of Morrocco late last night, roughly 50 miles outside the city of Marrakech. Today rescue workers are combing through rubble in search of survivors as the quake caused significant destruction in the earthen homes of the city’s densely populated medinas (seen here) and the surrounding rural villages. The earthquake is the strongest to hit the area in the last century and current reporting says that more than 1,000 people have died.
