ニッキー・リードさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ニッキー・リードInstagram)「Part 2 of my birth story is out today on @themotherdazepodcast . After last week’s episode aired, I was flooded with emotional messages from birth-workers saying they had never seen such a positive depiction of homebirth / midwifery care in a major publication before, and suddenly I was a ball of feelings. As many of you know, I am naturally inclined to guard my sacred moments, but THIS was my hope when I took the leap and decided to share something so personal. If our stories can in any way connect us, or create an honest conversation, then perhaps it is worth stepping outside of what feels comfortable to inspire change. Women deserve better care, mothers deserve to be seen and heard, our mental and physical health deserves to be valued, and that starts with acknowledging first that our system is broken. We need to know what it CAN look like in order to know what questions to ask, which is why I chose to share. Part 2 is out now, where we discuss all things BIRTH, from methods used during pushing to keep from tearing (thank you @birthwhisperer ) to why some babies need a full minute to transition earth side (thank you @lamidwifeabby ) and why that can look different in a homebirth. We talk about feeling safe, and why quiet can feel so big when we are used to chaos, and how laughing through contractions and fast labor made this evening so surreal. Abby and Johanna, you both are such a gift. I also wanted to take a moment here to list a few stats along with something Abby wrote “As a country, our maternal mortality rate currently ranks highest among industrialized nations, and has remained on a steady incline for 30 years. From the near deadly side effects of birth control, to the often ignored yet debilitating symptoms of endometriosis, the downplaying and disregard of postpartum pain and bleeding, or the dismissiveness during labor and delivery as the laboring woman’s requests are being ignored and her birth plan laughed at, I have sat and held space for the stories of these women for years.” We deserve better. And now we must demand better. Photos by @cristinakingbirth」9月1日 2時19分 - nikkireed
