Falling into the rhythm, embracing the tired, saying ok to the hands that reach in to help. Part of 35 for me has been learning that I cannot do it all on my own, and that’s ok. We need community. We need love and hugs and food and a shoulder. We aren’t meant to do it alone. Being a mother has taught me to exhale some of that innate self reliance and lean into the softer sides, the sides that need a hug, or a hand or a meal dropped off by a friend. Bringing new life into the world takes all of you, and then the universe sprinkles in a few curveballs and suddenly the word surrender takes on a whole new meaning. The emails pile up. The to-do list grows. A constant game of catchup. Last week a girlfriend came by with a loaf of bread and without even asking, cleaned my whole kitchen. It was the best gift.
