Looking like a character straight out of a Dr. Seuss book, black crested mangabeys are known for their long whiskers and pointy hairdo. They are also famous for their unique call, known as the “whoop-gobble”. The whoop gets the attention of other mangabeys in the area, and the gobble tells everyone who and where he is. Mangabeys spend a lot of their time moving from tree to tree in search of flowers that provide a sweet nectar treat. This feeding behavior makes them important forest residents, earning them the status of pollinators and seed dispersers, responsible for maintaining the health of the ecosystem.
