Video by @Joel Sartore | This juvenile sandhill crane was stranded in a Christmas Day blizzard in northern Iowa, where it was found lying in a snow drift by a passing motorist. The young crane was so covered in ice and snow the motorist drove past it, wondered about the odd shape in the snow, and then turned around and drove right back. There she discovered a bird that didn’t struggle, could not stand, and was near death. The crane was eventually taken to @iowabirdrehab for medical care. Iowa Bird Rehabilitation (IBR) is a nonprofit that provides care for songbirds, waterfowl, game birds, shorebirds, and small raptors.
