Dolphins are always on the move, but when the dinner bell rings or predators are nearby (these are the reasons we believe), dolphins will begin flying out of the water at blazing fast speeds. Dolphins meet less resistance in air than in water, so this method of traveling seems to make it easier for the dolphins to make a quick break. When I went to Southern California looking for dolphins, this event was obviously the Holy Grail of sightings and when it actually happened, I could hardly believe it!
