We wanted to find out what bedtime looked and sounded like for families around the world. We carry lullabies across borders and create new ones along the way. Mona, a Syrian refugee living in Turkey, tells us that for her, the lullaby is a "window into the caregivers’ soul." Here she’s seen with her first grandchild, Zaid, in their home in Hatay. In 2013 Mona fled Syria and joined her son in Turkey, where Zaid was born. “As Arabs, we have a proverb: No one is more worthy than your child but your grandchild,” she says. She sings songs to him in the hope that he might know a piece of Syria where his family is from.
