Photographed in 2007, this post is my tribute to the brightest star of Persian classical music, Shajarian, who recently passed away after a long battle with cancer. A true master, known for his almost 60 years of singing, composing, and humanitarian activities. But one thing that is less noted was his passion for the night sky. Being an astronomy journalist, I first realized about this 20 years ago, when he called me to discuss his interest. He received the Mozart Medal from UNESCO and is listed in NPR's 50 Great Voices of the World, but beyond these he won the heart of many Iranians and left an eternal legacy that continues through the Shajarian family and his thousands of students.
