今日の和菓子 : 重陽
五節句の一つで"菊の節句"とも呼ばれる重陽の節句。陰陽思想で奇数を意味する陽。その最高の数「九」が重なった日で、邪気を払い長寿を願って菊の花を飾ったり、菊の花びらを浮かべた酒を酌み交わして祝ったりしていたそう。皆さまに置かれましても、何か良いことが重なりますように。

Today's Wagashi : Chrysanthemum Festival
Choyo is a festival observed annually on September 9 as one of the five seasonal festivals in Japan. It is also called "Kiku no Sekku" (the Chrysanthemum Festival), since it's held in the season of the chrysanthemum, according to the old calendar. Chrysanthemums were believed to be auspicious flowers denoting longevity and eternal youth, and they were used as medicinal herbs in China. This confectionary represents the immortal flower to celebrate the Choyo Festival.
