Known as one of the most expensive woods in the world, agarwood, and oud, its essential oil, has for thousands of years held cultural and religious significance for civilizations worldwide. It was described as a fragrance as early as 1400 B.C.E., in the Sanskrit Vedas of India. Each tree requires 40 to 50 years for the resin to ripen before it may be extracted and distilled.
