Photo by @nicholesobecki | A five-month-old camel named Baarud playfully pulls at Aadar Mohamed's hijab in a coastal village in northwestern Somaliland. Baarud means "tough" in Somali—when he was in utero his mother nearly died in a drought. Seeing the camel close to death, Aadar managed to secure some porridge to nurse her back to life. Somalia has long been beset by extremes, and the climate crisis is compounding it problems. To see more of my work on humanity’s connection to the natural world, please follow @nicholesobecki.
