I’m not sure what to write. Social media can be such a beautiful place but can be really sad sometimes. When you personally know other women who feel like they can’t look at their feed without sacrificing their sense of security. I get angry at the platform I am a part of sometimes.
⠀
I can tell you that you are beautiful, but this isn’t easy to remember when your thumb scrolls and your mind meticulously dissects. It’s no easy work to love yourself…
⠀
Some people will claim it’s not social media’s problem. And I’d partially agree with that. I think the issue with self-acceptance is more deeply rooted than the superficial surface of a screen. But I don’t think the digital world of social media personalities and face tuned smoothing is doing wonders for the condition in which we grow.
⠀
So yes, while it’s up to the consumer to turn their device on and off, I think we have a responsibility to do good by others. Whether that’s demystifying those perfect selfies by disclosing photoshop use, or sharing the vulnerable confession of not having all your sh*t figured out.
⠀
We aren’t here for a long time, and while social media can feel like such a small subset of this world, I think the implications are worth noticing. And if we can do better for others, let’s do that. Kindness is never a bad thing.
⠀
Sorry, don’t know where this is going, but I guess it explains why I like turning off my phone from time to time. I guess my heart’s a little conflicted haha. Love you all, happy Tuesday💜
