In our landscape work we often find ourselves drawn to places where nature prevails. Ancient Hawaiians mostly traveled by footpaths to reach the lush valleys and beaches along this rugged coast. The Kalalau hiking trail roughly follows those original paths. The first spur trail off the Kalalau brought us into the deep forest of the Hanakapi’ai Valley. Mango trees were introduced to Hawaii in the 1800s. The tasty mangoes were immediately popular with Hawaiians and these grand trees, found deep within the valley, are a good indication of where settlements once existed. // Join @Charmin and our partners this Arbor Day to learn how we are working together on our reforestation efforts to ensure trees, our most valuable resource, continue to thrive.
