Absher is an app that allows men to track women and prevent them from traveling. It’s powered by the Saudi government, and is available in Google and Apple’s app stores.⁣

Last month 14 U.S. lawmakers called on Google and Apple to remove the controversial app from their stores. The lawmakers claim Absher helps “perpetuate sixteenth century tyranny.”⁣

But a recent Google investigation found that Absher complies with the company’s terms and conditions. Last month Apple said it would “take a look” at the app.⁣

In Saudi Arabia, women are assigned a male relative whose approval is required to apply for a passport, get married or travel abroad. For more information, visit the link in bio.⁣
