There I was, up in the top of a tree trying to photograph the courtship display of a Red Bird-of-Paradise, when this Blythe’s Hornbill decided to land right in the middle of the bird-of-paradise action. At first the courting birds were a bit shy, and moved down below, but after the hornbill sat there for a few minutes, they realized he wasn’t a threat and moved back up to their favorite branches for display. In all my years photographing birds-of-paradise, this is one of the funniest things I’ve seen. What do you think this hornbill was thinking?
