#Throwback to the time we moved Horatio Greenough's statue of George Washington (born on this day in 1732) from our Castle building to the partially completed Museum of History and Technology, which is now our @国立アメリカ歴史博物館.

The statue had to be moved before the museum was done so it would fit inside, pre-walls. And while we had to move the statue less than half a mile, at 12 tons it would have been quite a haul.
The sculpture is part of our @americanartmuseum’s collection but has been at @国立アメリカ歴史博物館 since it opened to the public in 1964. This September 1962 photo is from @smithsonianarchives. #tbt
