Who was your favorite "Sesame Street" character as a kid? We loved the intro sequence, which in 1979 featured this street sign on the set of the show. The top of the sign reads "CTW" for Children's Television Workshop. "Sesame Street" first aired on PBS in November 1969, combining commercial television techniques with substantive educational content.
Parents and kiddos, on the morning of Thursday, November 30, join us at the museum for a special, free #SesameStreet Celebration. We'll feature special Sesame Street-themed programs and activities for families with young children. The morning will include the chance for young ones to meet Walkaround Julia, one of Sesame Street's newest residents. We'll listen to Sesame Street stories, create a puppet-inspired craft to bring home, sing and dance, and get to see Muppets and puppets from the our collection up close with museum curators. (Most of our puppets can't be on display all the time because they are sensitive to light, so this is an exciting opportunity!) #FreeInDC #DCparent #myDCcool #DCcool #aCreativeDC #DCwithKids #WashingtonDC #WashingtonParent #ChildrensTelevision #KidsTV #EarlyChildhoodEducation #MuseumEducation #SmithsonianIngenuity
