Netsuke (pronounced net-ské) were intricately carved toggles traditionally worn by Japanese men to secure dangling items hanging from a sash tied around the kimono. They were popular expressions of style and status during the Edo period (1615–1868). Scroll to see other examples of this fine craft ???– the silver turtle and wooden goldfish are both on display in our touring exhibition dedicated to netsuke, currently @bathmeaa. #netsuke #Japan #kimono #EdoPeriod #carving #puppy #dog #museum #BritishMuseum
