Aujourd’hui nous vous présentons des détails de ce magnifique portrait du roi Charles Ier d’Angleterre, dit « Portrait du roi à la chasse » par Antoon van Dyck, un des chefs-d’œuvre de l’artiste à dater vers 1635. Il ne s'agit pas à proprement parler d'un portrait royal officiel, le roi est plutôt représenté comme un gracieux gentilhomme. Mais cet élégant portrait, malgré son apparente désinvolture, est également une image de la grandeur royale. Le costume du roi est d'ailleurs par trop somptueux pour une simple partie de chasse : chapeau à larges bords, bottes à revers et surtout magnifique pourpoint argenté dont le peintre fait chatoyer l'étoffe par de savants jeux de lumière. Avez-vous remarqué la plume du chapeau qui se fond dans les nuages, ou la perle à l’oreille du monarque ?

Today we are sharing details from this magnificent portrait of King Charles I of England, called "At the hunt", by Anthony van Dyck. It is one of the masterpieces of the artist's English period, dating from about 1635. The painting is not, strictly speaking, an official royal portrait; the King is portrayed here as a gracious gentleman. But this elegant portrait, despite its apparent casualness, is nevertheless a statement of royal grandeur. The king's costume is, of course, far too luxurious for a day's hunting: wide-brimmed hat, elaborate turned-down boots, and above all the magnificent doublet on whose silvery fabric the painter displays his mastery of shimmering light effects.
