?? Ce chef-d'œuvre précoce de Jean Baptiste Siméon Chardin, né #CeJourLa en 1699, fut d'emblée jugé digne des plus beaux modèles flamands (Snyders, Fyt). Dans « La Raie », ce "monstre étrange", Proust admira "la beauté de son architecture délicate et vaste, teintée de sang rouge, de nerfs bleus et de muscles blancs, comme la nef d'une cathédrale polychrome". Morceau de réception de Chardin à l'Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture en 1728, « La Raie », avec son pendant « Le Buffet » marque les débuts de la carrière de Chardin. Le tableau est resté dans les collections de l'Académie, avant d'entrer pendant la Révolution française, en 1793, au Muséum central des arts de la République, futur musée du Louvre.

In “The Ray”, “this strange monster”, Proust admired “the beauty of its vast and delicate structure, tinted with red blood, blue nerves and white muscles, like the nave of a polychromatic cathedral”. Chardin’s reception piece to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1728, “The Ray”, with its companion piece “The Buffet”, marks the beginning of the artist’s professional career.
