What if sipping your tea during World War I could help Allied forces abroad? This cup and saucer from a Liberty China and Queen's Ware tea service made teatime patriotic. Designed and sold by American benefactress Lillian Gary Taylor, Liberty China raised funds to support charitable relief organizations during World War I. Taylor designed the decoration for the pottery, which included the flags of 11 Allied countries and a shield with the Stars and Stripes. ☕️?? Lillian Gary Taylor selected Josiah Wedgwood & Sons to produce the wares. Taylor exclusively marketed and sold Liberty China from her home, keeping a set in her parlor to show potential buyers, to ensure that all profits from her tea service were used for charitable relief. Production of Liberty China and Queen's Ware ceased on Armistice Day, November 11, 1918. ?? #WomensHistory #WorldWarI #WorldWar1 #centenaire #1GM #FWW #ww100 #centenario #tea #teasets #teaservices #teacups #FoodHistory #SmithsonianFood #Tea #TeaTime
