国立アメリカ歴史博物館のインスタグラム(amhistorymuseum) - 6月9日 04時08分

This drawing depicts refugees returning to a shell-torn village in Hatton Chattel, France, after World War I. This work was created by William James Aylward of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in 1918. Aylward was one of eight official artists of the AEF that documented its activities during the war.
The artwork produced by these artists offers a vivid glimpse of the horrors and destruction of World War I and its devastating effect on Europe. It also gives a window into AEF movements, activities, locations, and its involvement in the local war effort.
