Do you like to stroll through museums with a spontaneous flow, or do you like to read all the labels? Sometimes the context can shift initial perceptions of an artwork.

In his series “The Weight of History,” Cuban artist Reynier Leyva Novo employs INk, a software developed to compute the weight, volume and area of the ink used in printed documents. [5 squares of different sizes emoji] "5 Nights" (2014) applies the INk software to five revolutionary texts that constituted the basis of totalitarian regimes in the 20th century (from left to right, texts by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, Adolf Hitler, Fidel Castro, Mao Zedong, Muammar al-Gaddafi ). The literal weight of history here is no more than the few milligrams of ink that make up these texts, but each dark rectangle is freighted with a heavy legacy.

We’re the @Hirshhorn and we’re taking over the @スミソニアン博物館’s account to share our collection.
