Photo by @coryrichards // #NatGeoInspires // Thousands of years ago, the only evening light was fire, and the words and stories of our ancestors were illuminated by its subtle glow. It guarded us from darkness and guided us in the stories told in those moments. We have always been driven by illuminating stories and held captive by the dark…often looking to the heavens for answers. While the glow of campfires may have been replaced by the glow of screens, our desire for storytelling persists. @NatGeo’s Instagram is the campfire of our modern human family. Over the past year, we’ve collected a selection of your favorites from our feed and compiled them into a book. The irony is not lost on us that we've gone from print, to digital, and now back to print...making the ethereal tactile...much like the aim of the stories we've always told. The @NatGeoBook comes out Oct 25 and, in my mind, offers an opportunity to bring us closer together, to inspire and to continue sharing our own and each other’s stories. Over the next few weeks we’ll be using #NatGeoInspires to share our stories inspired by the themes of the book - Wanderlust, Curiosity, Beauty, Marvel - and hope that you’ll join in sharing yours around this digital campfire. We’ll also be selecting our favorites for a chance to be featured alongside @NatGeo photographers at the interactive @NatGeoBook Museum exhibit opening Nov 11 in Washington D.C. and more.
