Each day we traveled further north, through the jungle villages of the Kachin region of Myanmar #onassignment for the @ナショナルジオグラフィック #MyanmarClimb expedition. The goal was to stand atop Hkakabo Razi with a high-powered GPS to determine the highest point in SE Asia. ~

This morning we left Dazungdam village, which consists of five households, a school, and is nestled within the steep river valley of the jungle. While our porters sorted gear and headed out, I stumbled into this kitchen scene with light pouring in through the bamboo slots. It was interesting to see the transition of culture from Burmese to Tibetan as we headed north towards the mountain (Hkakabo Razi), in food, religion and even social mannerisms. ~
