Happy Mother’s Day on behalf of all species on this great planet. A mother polar bear stands guard over her resting cubs as they wait patiently for the sea ice to freeze for the first time in many months. She needs to get on the ice to feed on seals in order to replenish her greatly diminished body fat. At this point, she has not eaten a substantial meal in over four or five months and yet has had to nurse her cubs to keep them alive.
